Apple & Blackberry Crumble

The best way to use up lots of beautiful fruit, in a comforting Winter dessert.

Ingredients

  • 3-4 large cooking apples, peeled, cored and chopped into small pieces
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blackberries
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the chopped apples, blackberries, granulated sugar, and cinnamon until well combined.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a 9-inch baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  4. In another bowl, mix together the flour, butter, rolled oats, light brown sugar, and salt until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
  5. Sprinkle the crumble mixture over the fruit mixture, covering it evenly.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the crumble is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
  7. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
